Hudson Valley Woman Killed In Wrong-Way Driver Crash Identified

A Hudson Valley woman killed when an SUV crossed the roadway into oncoming traffic has been identified by police.

Dutchess County resident Li Hongling, age 50, of Poughkeepsie, was killed Sunday, Aug. 6, on Route 9W in Ulster County in the town of Highland.

The collision occurred around 4:40 a.m. when a 21-year-old Poughkeepsie man was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer southbound on Route 9W when he crossed into the northbound lane striking a 2016 Chevy Cruze which was traveling northbound, said Lloyd Police Chief James Janso.

The driver of the Chevy Cruze, a 50-year-old Poughkeepsie man was transported by New Paltz Rescue Squad to Vassar Hospital for internal injuries. 

Hongling was transported by Mobil Life Ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where she died from her injuries, Janson said.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was the sole occupant and was uninjured. 

The crash is still under investigation.
